Mobile Kennel Club Meeting Minutes (Jan. 2014 cont.)

AKC Update:

The AKC Board of Directors has moved a proposition enabling judges, who are certified to judge 80% of breeds in a group, to judge the entire group.  This has been moved to the Delegates for discussion at their next meeting

Effective immediately, any club having less than 500 entries at their show may hold 2 shows in one day.  Other requirements are present; however, this is the main criteria.

The AKC will fund requests for Theriogenology at 3 veterinary schools at a cost of $100,000 each. The American Kennel Club will fund this program beginning in 2014. The universities are:  Auburn University, University of California, Davis, & University of Pennsylvania.  This is a special degree for vets making them specialists in canine genealogy and fertility.

Legislative Update:

Bonnie Hale the APHIS rule is being challenged in the courts.  The MKC donated $100 to aid this cause.  She will provide more detail as it becomes available.

Old Business:

Next puppy match – After discussion, Janet Carberry made a motion to table this until our next meeting.  A 2nd was made by Pat Robinson and passed unanimously.

AKC disaster relief trailer – Kathy Norfleet brought a booklet explaining the purpose of the trailer.  Kathy stated that the Birmingham Kennel Club donated $1,000 and challenged other clubs in the state to match their contribution.  With donations from private and public courses and the MKC, it was believed we could match the contribution.

After discussion about what the trailer contained, what supplies it brought, and how it was dispatched, the members in attendance decided the trailer, while a good idea, did not bring enough supplies and resources to make a viable difference should a disaster strike the Gulf Coast.

It was determined the AKC relief trailer issue was concluded with no further action necessary.  Janet Carberry was asked to bring a proposal to the next meeting for helping club members in the time of a disaster.

New Business:

Members to be voted on for full membership –  Pat Robinson will check on people who are eligible for Board approval.  The Secretary will send them notice once the names are received so they can make official request per the club’s bylaws.

Adjournment: 7:42 p.m.

Motion was made by Pat Robinson to adjourn with a 2nd from Janet Carberry.   Passed unanimously

It takes a big man to show a small dog,
